We are proud supporters of the Empower Me energy saving program which is using a peer-mentoring system to inspire climate change action. Empower Me Mentors encourage energy saving action in their communities by offering culturally appropriate and in-language energy efficiency education and support to Energy Champions (households).
To date, over 1,000 households throughout the Lower Mainland have taken part in Empower Me, with an average reduction of nearly 10 tonnes of CO2e per Champion or home about $400 annual savings in utility bills per home! In total, Empower Me has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 10,580 tonnes that’s proven climate change action.
Empower Me has a team of multi-lingual Energy Mentors who visit households in the community to teach them about energy saving, utility programs, rebates, recycling, composting, water usage and health and safety. The trust and expertise that Mentors and Empower Me have developed within their community provides a strong channel to communicate important energy and safety information.
The program was initially developed to be delivered in two South Asian and two Chinese languages. Due to popular demand, it is now available in 9 South Asian Languages, 3 Chinese languages as well as in English. The program is designed so that it may be targeted in any language to any specific community.
