Kambo has partnered with one of North America’s largest real estate advisors to implement an energy management software pilot at a 29-story tower in Vancouver’s Coal Harbour. To improve energy transparency in the mixed use MURB and commercial space with 236 residential units, Kambo has paired two energy management platforms to come up with a cost-effective customized solution that works for the building.
The Energy Challenge
Prior to the project, the building’s waste, water, natural gas and electrical consumption data was being received, processed and analyzed through different manual systems making it cumbersome to track or gain any technical data insights. The building’s management wanted to be able to easily benchmark the property’s energy data against similar buildings in their portfolio to gauge its performance. Additionally, the building’s management wanted to easily calculate building metrics such as energy and waste consumption by square foot or by tenant.
You can't manage what you don't measure!
The key benefit of Kambo’s energy management software (EMS) is that it gives you centralized data and full transparency into your building’s performance. Kambo’s portfolio management and benchmarking solution is a combination of wireless, real-time electricity monitoring, and industry leading cloud-based energy management software that is built specifically for large portfolios of buildings.

MONTHLY WASTE MONITORING
The Energy Solution
To launch the pilot project Kambo inputted 12-months of water, waste and natural gas historic data to gain a snapshot and develop benchmarks. Kambo then installed 56 real-time electricity sensors in the property’s common areas to monitor electrical systems such as lighting, heating, air conditioning, and pumps and compressors. Moving forward, the energy management software allows the uploading of billing and consumption data to be completely automated.
The new energy management system will help with budget allocation, financial forecasting, tenant pricing, and occupant engagement on sustainability goals. Additionally, the property’s management can better plan for future energy projects by more accurately calculating financial and energy savings. The industry-leading software can also incorporate weather data for energy forecasting and benchmarking.
The larger goal for the property management is to validate the opportunity to effectively manage, report, and reduce energy costs and consumption across its entire building portfolio using Kambo’s energy management software.
