Our superstar Senior Analyst, Maryam Rezaei, was recently featured on CBC radio for a story on the hidden issue of energy poverty.
Kambo is part of an energy efficiency collective made up of three sister companies, one of which, is Community Power. Community Power works alongside remote indigenous communities to co-develop and implement custom energy and housing management solutions. During the CBC segment, Maryam shared some insights from her work with Community Power.
The issue of energy poverty, or energy burden, refers to households that spend a disproportionate amount of their income on household energy needs such as electricity, heating, and cooling. Maryam’s research has shown that spending from 6% to over 30% of a household’s income on energy bills can be defined as energy poverty. The results of her research show 21% of households in Canada experience energy poverty, which amounts to 2.8 million households.
Kambo is proud to be part of this energy collective that contributes to these important conversations and brings these hidden issues to light.
