About D-Wave Systems
Despite the incredible power of todaya��s supercomputers, there are many complex computing problems that cana��t be addressed by conventional systems. Located in Burnaby, BC, D-Wave Systems Inc. is the worlda��s first quantum computing company. Today D-Wave is the recognized leader in the development, fabrication, and integration of superconducting quantum computers.
D-Wavea��s head office includes a custom production facility and a superconducting electronics lab to build systems that use quantum physics to compute. A team of scientists and engineers are employed to design, fabricate, and test the processors in their in-house facilities.
The Energy Challenge
It is not surprising that the electrical system required for the research, development and manufacturing of quantum computing is highly complex. With such technical operations and advanced equipment, simply receiving one total usage number from utilities at the end of the month wasna��t providing them with the level of insight then needed. D-Wavea��s facilities manager was looking to get more granular electrical consumption so he could make informed decisions based on real data.
Kambo installed wireless electricity monitoring sensors throughout D-Wavea��s Burnaby facility which transmit real-time electrical consumption to cloud-based energy management software. The D-Wave team are now able to measure and analyse the electrical draw of each circuit and key piece of equipment, making it possible to monitor electrical demand levels throughout the day. For this project Kambo engaged their official energy monitoring partner,A�Panoramic Power, as their user friendlyA�energy management software makesA�it easy for D-Wave employees to access the data remotely and track key pieces of equipment in real time to spot inefficiencies and reduce energy costs.
Live energy monitoring has provided D-Wave with a range of qualitative benefits. They are now able to get more granular with their electrical consumption analysis and can use the data for optimizing site efficiencies and making operational decisions. Panoramic Power’sA�energy monitoring technology has enabled D-WaveA�to pin-point where they can scale back or revise their operations to be more efficient.
D-Wave employees are able to map out the energy use of individual pieces of equipment assessing their performance. This allows them to generate an energy benchmark for each piece of equipment. This can help facilities staff to spot maintenance issues, malfunctions, inefficiencies and other operational anomalies.
